Seablush Inspiration

Artisan: Jaime Taylor

Seablush (Plectritis congesta) is a sea coast abiding flower. It blooms in the salty air near the sea and grows abundantly with clusters of pink flowers when conditions are right. With so many vibrant visual elements to awaken the senses, Jaime Taylor, textile artist and creator of Seablush, aims to capture her joy of colour in each piece that she makes.

Life is alive with vibrant colours through the changing seasons along the West Coast of Canada. On Vancouver Island, hues of the sea and sky come together with glimpses of snowy mountains, abundant trees and many species of plants that exist nowhere else. The winters are filled with the rich browns and greens of the coniferous trees and the lush textures of mosses and lichens. The spring brings the unfurling of the ferns and the awakening of magnolia and cherry blossoms. Many fields of wild flowers decorate the summer months along with the bright salmon berries, wild black berries with their black stain and purple Oregon grapes,

"Walking in nature, I am captivated by how colours come together. In my own creations, I love to work with fabrics and textile elements until they feel harmonious. With great attention to detail, I work the elements together until I have a finished piece that is both made with care, and that is unique. Enjoy!"
